Fujifilm’s FinePix Z30 launched in early 2009 as an unapologetically fun fashion camera in pink, purple, orange, white, and black — a camera designed to be as much accessory as tool. It targeted the style-conscious teenager market with simplified controls, automatic scene recognition, and Blog Mode that made posting to photo-sharing sites and social networks a single step. The Successive Movie Mode let you build and edit 60-second video compilations entirely in-camera, without touching a computer — a legitimately useful trick in that brief window between flip phones and smartphones when dedicated cameras still served casual social photography.
NO FILTER: SHOT ON Z30

THE LOOKS
In purple, the Z30 commits fully to its fashion-first identity. The slim, rounded plastic body measures 90.5 × 59.0 × 25.7mm and weighs 131g with battery — properly pocketable, and the curved shape makes it feel friendly rather than technical. A sliding front cover protects the lens when closed and doubles as the power switch. The shiny finish resists scratches, and the five color options — pink, purple, orange, white, and black — were chosen to be visible and personal, not understated.
THE SPECS
10-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor, ISO 64–1600. Fujinon 3× optical zoom, 35–105mm equivalent, f/3.7–4.2. Picture Stabilization (digital). 2.7-inch LCD (230k dots). SR Auto scene recognition across six scene types, Face Detection with automatic red-eye removal, 16 scene modes. Blog Mode, Successive Movie Mode, Natural Light & Flash dual-capture. VGA video at 640×480/30fps, monaural audio, no optical zoom during recording. SD/SDHC card storage plus 50MB internal memory.
DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS
- Sliding front cover in five fashion colors: Pink, purple, orange, white, and black — the cover doubles as the on/off switch, keeping the face clean and making color the first thing you notice.
- Blog Mode for one-step social sharing: Optimized image sizing and settings for uploading directly to photo-sharing sites and social networks, removing the friction between shooting and posting in the pre-smartphone era.
- Successive Movie Mode with in-camera editing: Record multiple clips, set in and out points, and assemble a 60-second compilation without leaving the camera — a small but practical feature for the early social video era.
THE VERDICT
The Z30 is exactly what it says it is: a fashion camera for people who want something fun to carry and easy to use. The CCD sensor turns in warm, nostalgic colors even if overall sharpness is soft, the sliding cover design is satisfying to use, and in any of the five color options it looks genuinely charming rather than generic. The controls are fiddly and the image quality won’t win awards, but that was never really the point — and that specific combination of limitation and personality is exactly what makes it interesting today.
